Defier's Philosophy and Vision

SABURAU Project

Here at Defier, we respect the spirit of Japanese martial arts and look forward to watching those who compete in the Japanese tradition of judo on the wonderful occasion of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Product Development

We have launched the brand Defier / ATELIER SABURAU, with the aim of continuing to develop our own judo wear. In addition to this is the inclusion of our own original contemporary versions of Japanese traditional crafts (such as sashiko and boro).

Our Dream to Nurture Judoka to Lead the Future

Defier has two judo masters who bring their own expertise to the company; one master, a two-time world champion who has taught judo all over the world, and another who has stood on the podium in Japan many times during his judo career, including running his own dojo for over 10 years.

Our dream is to help judoka, both in Japan and internationally, grow into global judoka of the future, who will become leaders themselves in time.

Establishment

In February 2014, Hitoshi Sugai, two-times World Judo Champion from Japan, set up a judo clothing sales company with the aim of bringing judo to the world.

At Defier, we will use our own experiences to bring judo to everyone globally, in accordance with current trends and needs. Our commitment is to do our very best to make judo gi and accessories more appealing by carefully choosing specific threads, stitching, weaves and colourways.

Atelier Saburau Showroom

In August 2019, Defier Co., Ltd held its pre-opening for their store, ‘Atelier Saburau’, in Sapporo, Hokkaido. They began by focussing on stocking contemporary versions of Japanese traditional craft, such as aizome (indigo-dyed products), sashiko and boro, along with the opportunity for customers to order judo gi/kimono.

Our international online store is scheduled to open in October, 2019.
